Here's what we were working with - a bare, patchy backyard with no real purpose. Dirt, dead grass, scattered debris. Nothing usable. The homeowner wanted a yard they could actually spend time in, and one that wouldn't demand constant maintenance to look decent.

We designed the whole space from scratch. A concrete patio anchors the back portion of the yard and connects to a wide walkway that flows through the entire space. The layout makes it easy to move around the yard and gives the patio area a natural gathering spot - complete with a fire pit setup and a built-in block seating wall on one side.

Fresh sod fills in the open lawn area, giving the yard that clean, green look that makes everything else pop. Around the perimeter, we built out full plant beds loaded with color - hydrangeas, heuchera, and other perennials spaced out with room to grow. Dark mulch keeps the beds looking sharp and cuts down on weeds. Stone edging runs along the bed borders, giving a clean separation between the lawn and the planting areas.

The goal on every job like this is to make the yard feel intentional. Not just patched together, but actually designed. Every element here - the patio, the walkway, the sod, the beds, the edging - was laid out to work together. That's what turns a neglected backyard into a space worth using every day.

Minneapolis yards can take a beating, and a lot of homeowners end up with spaces that just never got any real attention. This one is a good example of what's possible when you approach it with a full plan instead of just tackling one thing at a time.
