This backyard had solid bones - an elevated deck, a walkout door, good open space - but nothing usable at ground level. No place to set up chairs, fire up a grill, or just hang out without standing in the grass. That's exactly the kind of problem a well-planned concrete patio solves.

We installed a connected patio layout that ties the under-deck covered area to a large circular slab out in the open yard. The two zones work together so the space feels cohesive instead of choppy. One flows naturally into the other, giving you covered and uncovered options depending on the weather.

The circular section is the real standout here. Getting a clean, true circle in concrete takes more setup than people realize - the formwork has to be precise, the grading underneath has to be right, and the finish work around the edge has to be consistent all the way around. We got it dialed in. The stamped, textured border runs along the outer ring and gives the whole thing a finished edge with a little visual depth, rather than just a plain blunt edge meeting the grass.

Under the deck, the concrete got a darker stamped border treatment to define that zone and add a bit of character in what could have been a pretty plain area. Between that and the white river rock bed underneath the deck structure, the whole setup looks intentional - not just poured and done.

Concrete patios like this one hold up through Minnesota winters, they don't shift and settle like pavers can, and they're easy to maintain season after season. For a backyard that goes from bare lawn to a real outdoor living space, it's hard to beat a setup like this.
